As my previous post suggests I've not been having the greatest luck writing lately. I'm not a very confident writer and usually find myself losing faith in a script not long after its completion. Part of this I feel is feedback related so today I'm going to post 5 pitches for short films and see what you guys think is the best idea. If you've got a minute to help me out, it's much appreciated!
Please be aware that not all these ideas are strictly filmmable but will be enjoyable to write.
1. Flounders
Theme: Forgiveness and retribution
Genre: Sci-fi/ drama
Two homeless women navigate their seaside hometown in what has been fated to be the "last day on earth" While initially neither of them believe the rumours, the paranormal sights they encounter force them to think again and seek out forgiveness for those they have wronged and those who have wronged them.
2. Polished
Theme: Being true to yourself
Genre: Comedy
Ethan doesn't know who he is. Or even if "he" is a "he". Unsure of how to break the news to his anxiety ridden mother, Ethan practices his coming out in-front of a mirror.
3. The Matinee
Theme: Jealousy
Genre: Black Comedy
An amature drama performance of Romeo and Juliet gets turned on its head when a spiteful extra decides to murder the title characters for real. Determined that the show must go on, the troupe decide to improvise around Juliet's untimely death while simultaneously trying to figure out who the murderer is.
4. Our Kid
Theme: Processing grief
Genre: Drama
James just wants to run. Away from all responsibilities, his monotonous school life and his grief. The short film follows James as he's chased along the coast with hopes of getting on a boat and never coming back, refusing to confront the things that made him want to run in the first place.
5. Tour De Force
Theme: Taking responsibility for your own mistakes
Genre: Spy/ thriller
When MI6 agents make a mess it's up to The Cleaners to clean it up. Quick, deadly efficient with an eye for detail they leave no stone unturned as they remove fingerprints and manipulate crime scenes to make it appear as if there were no agents there. One day a cleaner comes in to find the MI6 agent is still there, and he has made a terrible mistake.
I'd love to hear some feedback on these ideas. Maybe none of them work but I'd love to get some different opinions!
